Helpful Practice Tips

Find a regular place and time to practice.

Spend time every day practicing without printed music.
Improvise, make up songs, practice tonguing and breathing.  Figure out songs you know.

Find the most difficult parts of a song and practice those parts over and over again.

Play difficult parts very slowly.

Start from different places in a song.  Don't always start at the beginning.

Figure out where you will breath and write a breath mark.

Mark your music with a pencil so you don't make the same mistakes twice.

Figure out which scale or notes go with a song.

Practice outside or with a friend.

Play along with your favorite recordings and try to figure out what notes go well with the song.

Practice with your mind- without your instrument!
