This year 62 students are playing in the ASA bands! The entire fifth grade class has signed up for band, so we are especially excited to welcome 18 beginners to the program.
Tips for Beginners
The first challenge to becoming a musician is to get through the initial few months. If there is ever a time when learning to play an instrument isn’t fun it will be during these first months, when the chasm between how the student plays and how they want to play seems almost insurmountable.
Just about anyone has enough talent to learn an instrument, and with regular practice a basic level of achievement can be attained within a few months. There is a clear correlation between time spent practicing and improvement, so the best thing that you can do for your child’s musical development is help them find 20-30 minutes for conscientious practice every day. Ideally they can practice in a quiet space, and place their music on a music stand or a piano. There is no substitute for regular, daily practice.
